Workshop 2: Integrating curriculum design, teaching and assessment to improve learning
Friday 27 July 2007
Apologies for the delay in making the papers from the workshop available - almost as soon as I returned from Sri Lanka I went off on two weeks' leave and only returned today (20 August).
"Too often university curricula focus on delivering content rather than preparing students for uncertain futures where it is the attributes and skills developed in their studies which will be of importance to them. Students need to be able to identify their own learning needs and construct their own understanding of subjects as well as appreciating what it means to develop expertise and think like a scientist, economist, historian or whatever.
These demands mean that we need to give greater thought to the alignment between the curriculum design, learning activities our students engage in and assessment.
In this workshop we will model an approach which will require participants to read, work collaboratively, teach others and reflect on the implications for their own practice."
The topics covered in the workshop and the associated papers are as follows (with all topics you can also try Google or other internet search engnes):
Introduction to curriculum design
Constructive alignment
Teaching for transformation
Assessment for Learning
Feedback
Evaluation of Learning
